Online Guide Gives Voters Facts on N.C. Primary Candidates

RALEIGH – Voters across North Carolina can get facts on this year’s primary election candidates with an online voter guide available at www.NCVoterGuide.org.

Created in a partnership between the N.C. Center for Voter Education and UNC-TV statewide public television, the 2010 N.C. Voter Guide covers all 100 North Carolina counties and features profiles on candidates running for offices from U.S. Senate to county commissioner and more.

Supplementing the candidate profiles is the “Judge for Yourself: Election 2010” radio series featuring in-depth interviews with contenders for U.S. Senate and N.C. Court of Appeals -- the only statewide races on this year’s primary ballot.  In addition to the audio series, the voter guide includes video interviews with U.S. Senate candidates.

“Our research shows that the number one reason why voters don’t go to the polls is because they don’t know enough about the candidates,” says Damon Circosta, executive director of the nonpartisan N.C. Center for Voter Education.  “This guide empowers voters with the facts they need to cast an informed ballot.”

This year’s primary election day is May 4.  Early voting runs Apr. 15-May 1 across North Carolina, during which time voters can register and cast a ballot at the same time.

The N.C. Center for Voter Education is a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization, dedicated to helping citizens fully participate in democracy.
