Justice Through the Eyes of N.C. Voters: Exclusive New Research Data on State Courts to be Released
WHAT: News conference to release exclusive new research data revealing the pulse of N.C. voters when it comes to how they view their state’s courts.
WHERE: Board Room, State Board of Elections, 506 North Harrington St., Raleigh
WHEN: Tuesday, June 28, 11:15 am
WHO: Chris Heagarty, executive director, N.C. Center for Voter Education
Randy Gutermuth, director of political affairs, American Viewpoint
WHY NOW: Recent reports in the news media raise questions about the fundraising practices of several trial court judges. Yet at the appeals level, North Carolina proved a national leader on campaign reform when its system of public financing for statewide judicial races was used for the first time in the 2004 elections.
Are Tar Heel voters concerned about the influence of money on their courts? Do they approve of this program?
Voters have long rejected the notion of appointing judges -- has that opinion changed, and if so, why?
The release of this data will answer these questions.
MEDIA RESOURCES: A media kit will be available at the news conference, including full poll results.
CONFERENCE CALL OPTION: The entire press conference can be accessed by telephone for those who cannot attend in person. Please contact Bryan Warner at the N.C. Center for Voter Education for more details (919) 839-1200.
Note: The release of this exclusive new poll data on North Carolina’s courts comes just days after the N.C. Center for Voter Education published survey results on the current trends of voter opinion regarding the state’s executive offices.
