Center to Release Exclusive Research on State Judicial Voter Guide

WHAT: A media conference to mark the release of exclusive survey data on the State Judicial Voter Guide, by the N.C. Center for Voter Education

WHEN: 10am, Wed, Feb 16

WHERE: Legislative Press Conference Room, N.C. General Assembly Building, Raleigh

WHO: Chris Heagarty, executive director, N.C. Center for Voter Education;
Hon. Bob Orr, former Justice, N.C. Supreme Court;
Hon. Wanda Bryant, Judge, N.C. Court of Appeals;
Sen. Dan Clodfelter (D-Mecklenburg);
Rep. Deborah Ross (D-Wake);
Members of the N.C. Bar Association

WHY NOW: The release of this new research data comes just months after the state mailed 3.9 million Judicial Voter Guides to homes across North Carolina. Now, proponents of the Public Campaign Fund, the program that pays for the voter guides, are asking taxpayers to support the Fund through an option on the state income tax form. But before they say yes to the option, taxpayers may want to know if the program works. This new research data will reveal just how effective these voter guides are.

MEDIA RESOURCES: A press kit will be available at the media conference. The kit includes a release summarizing the research findings; a booklet with complete survey data, including charts; a sample 2004 State Judicial Voter Guide; and five recommendations to the state based on the survey results.
