Press Conference on Judicial Campaign Reform Polling Results

Thursday, May 9th at 2:00 pm

WHAT: The release of a major new public opinion poll of 600 North Carolina likely voters, conducted for the N.C. Center for Voter Education by American Viewpoint, a nationally recognized polling firm.

WHY: To examine current public attitudes towards judges and courts. This survey underscores that the North Carolina public is extremely concerned with the growing role of both money and politics in our judicial campaigns, and that it is very supportive of proposals to reform these elections. Given how our courts have been making news in recent weeks, this survey provides timely and compelling insights into the public mood on the roles of courts and judges in North Carolina.

WHEN: Thursday, May 9th, 2002 at 2:00 pm

WHERE: Press Conference Room, General Assembly

SPEAKERS TO INCLUDE:

Chris Heagarty, Executive Director, N.C. Center for Voter Education

Randall Gutermuth, Director of Political Affairs, American Viewpoint

Senator Allen Wellons (D-Johnston) and/or other legislative supporters
