Press Conference on Judicial Independence
WHAT: Former U.S. Senator Robert Morgan, N.C. Court of Appeals Judge Hugh Campbell and A.P. Carlton, President-elect of the American Bar Association, will be discussing the release of a new report from the ABA’s Standing Committee on Judicial Independence (copies available at conference).
WHY: To comment on the report of the ABA’s Commission on Public Financing of Judicial Campaigns, which recommends that states that elect judges in contested elections allocate public funds as a means to address the perceived impropriety associated with judicial candidates accepting private contributions from individuals and organizations interested in the outcomes before them.
